OUR Story

WE WENT TO ROME. WE TASTED THE
impasto per pizza croccante, the freschezza degli ingredienti.*

WE loved it so much, WE BROUGHT IT HOME.

In the seaside village of Chester, Nova Scotia, we have a lot of some things: fresh air, wild roses, and ocean galore. People flock here for our beaches, our sailing regattas, and our local brewpubs and festivals.

But there was one thing we didn’t have:

Fantastic pizza.

Owner Sam Flinn comes from a food-passionate family (his mother opened the famed Kiwi Cafe, just around the corner from Il Ferramente!) and when he travelled the world, he became entranced with the very particular sort of pizza found on the streets of Rome. In little markets, sold from carts, and found in hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shops. Crispy, fresh, and rectangular—all unforgettable.

After an epic adventure of researching everything from the perfect and truly authentic Roman pizza oven (we found it!) and the ever-important dough method and cheeses, he returned to the south shore of Nova Scotia to share his treasure with the rest of us.

* Truly crispy pizza dough + freshness of ingredients. The Romans are a particular people. So are we!
